“Academic book publishing in the Anglo-American market” (online)

Publishing in the English language academic market for non-native speakers (online)

In this practice-oriented workshop, the participants will learn how to find, approach, and successfully collaborate with Anglo-American academic book publishers. The aim is to enable participants to confidently assess their own book publication project, identify suitable destination publishers, and learn how to best pitch their book project at high-quality English language presses.

The course is aimed at mid-career to senior academics who want to place their book project in the Anglo-American market. It consists of a half-day (4.5h net) participatory presentation covering the advanced basics of book publishing, from the best way to search for suitable presses to the drafting and delivering of a book proposal and the peer review process all the way to contractual issues and production details. The final section of this first part will also address marketing and PR efforts the participants can actively use.

On a separate day, the participants will then be given the opportunity to partake in 30min to 45min individual coaching sessions to discuss their current book projects in detail. This will help in determining what the next steps in their publication efforts should be.
