SUMMARY:Academic publishing primer & how to choose the right journal
DESCRIPTION:In this online course\, the participants will receive a brief but comprehensive introduction into the academic publishing market with a special focus on the search for suitable academic journals for article submission. \nThe participants will first learn how to assess their research in the context of the scientific publishing market and develop a publication strategy in line with their individual career goals. The workshop then covers a small number of relevant issues\, from choosing the most appropriate publication format and applying the most salient selection criteria for target publishers and journals to the importance of impact factors as well as Open Access solutions (and their funding). \nFurther practical modules deal with the creation of optimized titles and abstracts for journal articles as well as the advantages and disadvantages of co-authorship. It also provides an overview of the most important aspects of plagiarism and usage rights.\nThe course is aimed at doctoral students and early post-docs who have had limited experience with academic publishing and would like general orientation as much as concrete practical help in productively shaping their profile as early career academic authors.
